Take Control Over Your Dreams withLucid Dreaming Practice

Lucid dreaming is a state where the dreamer knows that a dream is occurring and can even exert control over it. Imagine what kind of fun you can have if you can master this technique. It does however, take some skill to get to a level where you can even recognize that you are dreaming.

The first skill to master is relaxation. If your mind is racing about the issue of the day, either for work, home or both, you will have a difficult time getting to a lucid dreaming state. Your conscious will take over and not allow you to recognize that you are dreaming. You still may dream, assuming that you can get to sleep, but wont be able to know its happening.

Its believed that most dreaming occurs during Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, which is a state where you are in a deep sleep. Therefore, you want to try to train your brain to know when that is going to occur. It generally occurs 90 minutes after you fall asleep. If you are one to fall asleep easily, you could set your alarm for 90 minutes after the time you normally tend to fall asleep. You probably want to use an alarm that emits light or plays music rather than a sound alarm as loud sounds may keep you awake after the it rings. The idea for lucid dreaming is to immediately go back to sleep. The alarm is used to simply trigger your brain into knowing that you should be in REM sleep when it goes off.

If you dont have the luxury of setting your alarm to know what point you should be in REM sleep, you can tell your mind before you go to sleep, to wake up in 90 minutes. Our mind does have an internal clock and it will know when 90 minutes have passed. The same concept can be applied in alerting our minds to be aware of our dreams whenever they occur. Simply tell yourself, I will remember my dreams and I will know when I am in a dream state.

If you are aware of your dreams and eventually able to control them, you should know there can actually be an ethical issue of how you behave within the dream. You are dealing with the subconscious mind and as such, could be playing with fire. The general rule is to act in the same manner that you would act as if you were awake. Doing otherwise risks rewiring your brain into believing those actions are proper and correct.

Eat Healthy Do you see a pattern here? Your memory likes healthy living. That extends to your diet, with plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Opt for low-fat protein, like fish and skinless poultry. Drink plenty of water too, and watch the alcohol intake.

Exercise Daily This boosts blood flow throughout your body. That includes your noggin. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity (like walking) each week, says the Department of Health and Human Services, or 75 minutes of something with greater intensity, like jogging, though even a few 10 minute brisk walks per day will suffice in a pinch.

Stay in Touch With Your Doctor Chronic conditions can affect your memory, to say nothing about the rest of your health. So follow your doctors recommendations, be it for depression, your kidneys or anything else in your medical history. Review your medications often with your doctor as well some medications can reduce your memory.

Ever since I was a kid, my parents always told me I’d never amount to anything. They always compared me to my older sister Dana, who painted the prettiest pictures in kindergarten, got perfect grades in high school, graduated with the highest honors from Harvardall that jazz. I thought these comparisons would end after we both finished our studies (I graduated with average scores from a lesser-known university), but then came the career phase.

Dana got a high-flying job as a PR representative of some huge corporate firm, whereas I was working as an assistant to a demanding and unappreciative boss. It made me feel very small and useless, especially when my parents constantly praised her for all her achievements, telling me, “When are you ever going to pull your socks up?”

I tried not to let it affect me, but I have to admit, it weighed on my mind heavily. Year after year I kept it bottled up inside, without release. I was miserable, and it showed on the outside. My colleague Layne noticed that I was becoming more and more reserved each day, and I’d gotten so thin to the point where I barely had enough energy to lift a stack of documents.

Then one day at work, I found a flash drive containing something called The Instant Switch on my desk with a note from Layne. So that night I went home and read the entire thing in one sitting. By the time I was done, my face was streaming with tears and I felt a sense of peace that I never thought I would experience in my life.

It was so powerful that I teared up just by reading it that first night. The very next day, I went into work and gave Layne such a tight hug that she almost fell over in surprise. We talked about the book at lunch, and she told me it had been her lifesaver a while back when she got retrenched from her previous job. In it there were several simple exercises that she learnt to do by heart eventually, such as a short meditation for rejecting any limiting beliefs. Her retrenchment had made her feel worthless, and unable to keep her eyes open to opportunities. Things had turned around when she found The Instant Switch and managed to pull herself back up before she spiraled further into despair.

Over the next few weeks, I practiced the intriguing methods inside the book. It was filled with such wisdom, words that no one had ever said to me in my life, and it made me feel like I wasn’t alone after all. I especially liked the “tapping” technique, which was astonishingly simple, yet effective! I could feel a change in me instantly as I practiced it.

There was also an additional book that came along with The Instant Switch called Success Accelerator that taught me how to take success into my own hands. It opened my mind to how I could control my own career path and reject all the expectations that others had of me. The ideas in it were not complex, yet they had never occurred to me before, and my outlook on life has been totally transformed.

Instead of moping around at work and feeling stuck in an endless rut, I now walk into the office with my head held high, greeting my boss with enthusiasm that I haven’t felt in years. I no longer see him as overbearing and ungrateful; instead I treated him like a boss, so to speakperforming my tasks cheerfully and helping him in any way I could. And he recognized the change! I got a raise just last month because he saw how hard I was working. Before The Instant Switch came into my life, I’d been dragging my feet at work and doing the bare minimum for everything. Now my work day always starts off happy, and ends the same way, too!

The biggest hurdle I’d had to overcome was my relationship with my family. The Instant Switch helped me to move past my hurt and shame, and I began to treat my parents and sister well, despite nothing changing on their end. The only change was that I no longer let their words and actions hurt me, using the wisdom The Instant Switch had taught me. There are five elements of which the human body is made up of : akasha (ether), Vayu (air), Agni (Fire), Jala (Water) and Prithvi (earth).

Because of the above five elements, all human beings are constituted with a combination of two or three primary ones. Those are called body humours or Doshas: Kapha, Vata and Pitta. Any person is easy to treat with the identification of his/her category.

Vata category is combination of space and air elements : People are fearful, illogical and insecure. Skin is dry. They have thin hair. They have dark brown or grey eyes. Vata activates the nervous system, hearing and speech and the persons is a great enthusiast with creativity. However, the state of his mind gets imbalanced easily because of which he gets diseases like insomnia, cramps and constipation.
Pitta category is fire element : These people are achievers, intellectual, fiery, angry, judgemental, with clear voice and precise expression. They have soft and fine hair. Eyes are blue, grey and hazel. They are good leaders and warm personality when healthy. Because of emphasis on metabolism and anger, they suffer from acidity, ulcers and rashes and also thinning of hair occurs.

Kapha category is(water and earth element : They have thick lustrous hair. Eyes are blue or brown. People have great endurance capacity with calm and steady mind. They are capable of forgiveness and intense love. Sometimes they are greedy and possessive. Kapha is the lubricant that keeps the joints working, keeps the body vibrant and balanced with immunity. Too much of it leads to lethargy, congestion, allergies and weight gain.

Nature of ailments

After the Prakriti is decided, one should know the nature of the diseases(Vikriti). It is imbalance obviously, but there are tow extremes to every imbalance, either deficiency or excess. Those are heavy-light, slow-sharp, cold-hot, unctuous-dry, smooth-rough, solid-liquid, soft-hard, stable-mobile, subtle-gross, and non-slimmy-slimmy. When corrected, Prakriti or original constitution is restored.

These 20 characteristics that with regards to ones basic constitution will decide the treatment. These may be caused by wrong foods causing improper digestion, wrong sleeping habits, improper mindset, anxiety etc.

The other type of ailment is clogging or blockage (Ama) for life energy to circulate for vitality. When this is corrected, it produces energy, perfect immunity, physical strength and hence a general sense of bliss which is summarised in Ayurveda in one word called Ojas.
